Senior Thesis Reflection

Overall, senior thesis as a learning experience was a success. My goal was to not create a better design than what was done by people who have years of experience on me, but to see what was successful and unsuccessful about my alternative design and the methods I employed to create/analyze it. Originally, an incorrect assumption about the k value used to calculate the effective length made the use of concrete columns seem extremely unrealistic. After fixing issues, my design seems more feasible and I'm proud of that. It was exciting and slightly challenging to learn to how to design voided slabs. I think my project was well-done, but I know there were aspects of it that I could have put a little more effort into. The assessment of how well I feel I achieved the ABET goals can be seen below.

Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Jessica Padilla. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
